In 1992 Anson and Ellen Peckham founded the first gallery in the Chelsea, New York arts
area. It was located on the second floor of their landmarked Brownstone cited by Paul
Goldberger in the New York Times (January 16,1981) as a "superb Greek Revival townhouse..."
Arranged in the manner of a collector's apartment, with serenely colored walls and
antiques reflecting the period, the Gallery provided an unusually comfortable and
elegant environment for the viewing of art.

Time, however, took its toll and they found the Brownstone too much to care for. They are, after all, "mature"
artists like those they represent.

|
| |
And so, like many artist-run organizations in New York, Atelier AE has moved.

In real space you will find the Gallery in a loft on busy 23rd Street between 5th and 6th
Avenues. Also their home and studio and where Ellen's etching press is available to Gallery printmakers,
it has the same aesthetic as the original. Their collections are displayed and they continue to represent
previously exhibited artists and to curate outside exhibitions. In recognition of Ellen's other
medium, poetry, they have added occassional readings and workshops to the Gallery schedule.
